Plan-Sets offered to construct Track stuff.
60' Turntable ••••  This 60’ balanced turntable is based on the turn-of-the-century turntables built by the Lassig Bridge Co. of Chicago, before, and after the Lassig Co. was purchased by the American Bridge Co. Many of these turntables were still in operation in the 1940's. Lassig built such turntables for the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific, C&N-W Ry, Rock Island, and other RRs at varying lengths.
i
Turning can be accomplished by simply turning with a couple fingers as was accomplished prototypically by a good man or the Plan-Set gives you the option of using commercial gears. Such turning eliminates fancy electronics if used in a railroad garden. A front bicycle or tricycle wheel axle bearing is another turning option (which can be found along any street on “Garbage Day.” Or, a simply block core between riveted side girders fastened to a Lazy Susan is another option.
i
30" as designed. This design could be easily lengthened for longer engines with tenders.

$16  Plan-Set, includes: 11) 13" x 19" super B drawings. The  Plan-Set includes a Material List, turning and electrical polarity options with construction instructions. Skill levels required to build this Turntable varies. Side girder plates fastened to a block is the easiest, or use commercial styrene shapes riveted to the girder plates for the most skilled finescale modeler, with variations in-between. Full size templates are available for ease of construction.

Velocipede Shed •••• These Sheds were once found everywhere along mainline railroad tracks sometimes every 10 miles or so for the Section Crews across the North American continent  to check and work on their section of track. Velocipedes (from the French for "swift footed") weighed around 135 pounds and were easily manhandled from planks between tracks onto a small platform in front of the shed and rolled into the building for protection from the weather. This plan-set includes options for a Garden Railway, (shown to the left) or options for finescale modeling. Footprint is 4ʺ x 6ʺ.

Ash and Cinder Pit with Tool Rack •••• This is the oldest style of Ash Pits where the track was carried on wooden side walls. This could be accomplished since “light weight” 4-4-0 American was the locomotive used by the CNW to Winegar, WI. By 1918 the wood of this Ash Pit at Winegar had reached its useful life and was filled in. At this small CNW terminal apparently they used the inefficient way of removing ash and cinders apparently with shovels from the build out into low sided railroad cars.

#4 RH & LH Turnout •••• This Plan-Set uses Llagas Creek code 215, 45mm gauge track and available details. I chose code 215 for my indoor layout because of it being relatively prototypical. I found the cost of Llagas Creek details reasonable. Full size templates are included for these details if you want to scratch build everything. Turnouts are drawn with a 6½΄ Radius, 21¾ʺ long.

C&N-W Ry Coal Storage House•••• This structures could hold maybe 16-tons of coal and would be suitable on almost any railroad. Coal Storage Houses were used as storage facilities for heating fuel for Depots, Pump Houses, etc. These structures were used for general storage after their useful life for coal storage had expired. Footprint is 10΄ x 16΄
C&N-W Ry Standard Tool House •••• This is a standard C&N-W Ry Tool House to house tools and other equipment for the maintenance of track and right-of-way by section crews. These small buildings were seldom spaced more than 10 miles apart and were often closer as conditions warranted. Built to be portable, when conditions changed they could be loaded on a flat car and moved to a new location. Several of these easy to build structures would fit in many layouts. Footprint 10' x 16'.
Coal Bucket •••• This drawing consists of construction pictures and instructions on how to solder/build brass Coaling Bucket for a Coal Bucket facility. Styrene would be an alternative material. NOTE: When gluing in rivets you’ll probably ask yourself is this really worth it? Yes it is. Wait until you paint your buckets. The rivets will jump out at you. This will result in the best looking Coal Buckets you have ever seen!
i
$4  Plan Sheet, includes: 1) 13" x 19" super B drawing with instructions, photos with scale rivets for a unique scale model.
C&N-W Ry 24' Dia. Water Tank •••• This is a Standard C&N-W Ry 24΄ diameter Water Tank that would have been found at terminals and every 100 to 150 miles in the heyday of Steam locomotives.
i
At Winegar WI, the water was supplied to the Tank from a nearby creak.
C&N-W Ry Water Well •••• This is a Standard C&N-W Ry Stand Pipe which pumped water into a Water Tank. This can be a great point of interest for your layout when constructed as cut section on the edge of your layout. Footprint 13΄ x 7΄ x 7΄ deep.
C&N-W Ry #1 Section House •••• This is a dwelling built by the C&N-W Ry for the Section Foreman and his laborers and possibly their families. The house may even been furnished by the C&N-W Ry. Residents either paid a nominal rate or had rent deducted from their salary. Many Section Houses, also had a Coal Shed, Chicken Coop Shed and of course a Privy. This C&N-W Ry standard #1, 2-story, 6 room, 24΄ x 28΄ Section House.
C&N-W Ry Pump House •••• Once the water well was completed a Pump House utility building would be built. C&N-W Ry trainmen maintained the stove, electric motor driven pump, (walking beam pumps were common) and pipes that carried water from the underground well to the Water Tank so the train from Mercer, WI could fill its tender. It was not uncommon when the tender was being filled, that the locomotive fireman could throw a shovel full of burning coal into the pump house stove eliminating a need for a dedicated person to monitor the stove in the coldest weather. Footprint of 12΄ x 20΄ with a lean-to coal storage bin.
i
Note; the small trackside stream which was also a reliable water supply. Pump houses besides containing pumping equipment, frequently included a bunk for a watchman who stoked the stove.
